SCHENECTADY, NY - After a three week break, the Union College women's hockey team returns to the ice continuing its ECACH schedule.
What's On Tap
The Dutchwomen return home to Messa Rink to host No. 8/8 Quinnipiac University on Friday (Dec. 2) at 6:00 p.m. and Princeton on Saturday (Dec. 3) at 3:00 p.m. It will be the first time that Union is at home since Oct. 28-29 when it played then No. 7/6 Colgate and Cornell.
Last Time Out
The Union College women's hockey team lost to No. 4/4 St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.
The Saints jumped out to a two goal lead after the first period as Kalie Grant beat Union goalie
Kate Spooner at the 11:16 mark. Brooke Webster would add another less than a minute later to make it 2-0 St. Lawrence.
Spooner made 28 saves in the 4-0 loss while
Katelynn Russ and
Haley Shugart lead the team with four shots on goal a peice.
Scouting the Bobcats
Quinnipiac has started the season 11-4-3 (5-2-1 ECACH) as it is coming off a a third place finish in the Nutmeg Classic. On Friday, the Bobcats faced Merrimack. After tying 1-1 after overtime, the game headed to a shootout. The Warriors won the shootout 2-0. The next night, Quinnipiac played UConn finding the net three times as they winning the consolation contest 3-2 over the Huskies. Quinnipiac's offense is spearheaded by Taylar Cianfarano who leads the team with 15 PTS (10G 5A) while goalie Sydney Rossman has a 1.51 GAA.
Scouing the Tigers
Princeton has started the season 5-6-1 (3-4-1 ECACH) dropping the last three games. This included dropping both of last weekend's games to Boston University. On Friday, the Tiger fell behind 2-0 after one period and could not mount a comeback lossing 4-1 in Boston. Saturday, the game was back and forth as a Terrier goal with four minutes remaining sent it to OT where BU found the winner just 37 seconds into the extra frame. The Tigers have three players with double digit points Karlie Lund 16 (10G 6A), Cassidy Tucker 10 (4G 6A) and Kelsey Koelzer 10 (1G 9A).
Next Up
The Dutchwomen are back on the road as they travel to Maine to take on the Black Bears on Friday (Dec. 9) and Saturday (Dec. 10).
