NORTH ADAMS, MA -- The MCLA Women's basketball team fell to Union College by the score of 43-41 this afternoon at the Amsler Campus Center. Union took the game over on a 17-4 run to end the 3rd quarter and the beginning of the 4th to take control of the game. Sophomore Sophie Borg scored 9 of the 13 points on the run in route to scoring 17 for the game.
With the loss, the Trailblazers now drop to 4-4 on the season, while Union College improves to 4-4 on the year.
Prior to the run that Union had made, they were trailing MCLA 26-18 with 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Borg scored 9 of her 11 points in the second half during the run and led all scorers with 17 while coming off the bench.
Junior guard Jenni Barra had seven points for the Dutchwomen, including two huge three pointers in the 4th quarter. Barra's first three pointer put Union up by six points and her second put them up by five. Erin Lyons helped in the win for Union with 11 points and five rebounds. Along with her 7 points, Barra tied her career high of seven rebounds with two assists. Borg also chipped in with seven rebounds.
The Trailblazers' scoring was lead by Kayla Hotaling with 12 points. She also contributed with 7 rebounds. Courtney McLaughlin pitched in a solid 10 and contributed with 4 assists.
Union is idle until opening the Liberty League season vs. St. Lawrence on December 30.
