CLINTON, NY -- Wade McNamara scored a team best 20 points and
William Hython had a game high 17 rebounds in Union's 72-61 non-league win at Hamilton Monday at the Scott Field House. The Dutchmen are now 8-10 on the season while the Continentals are 10-10 overall.
McNamara made four three pointers and all four free throws. A total of 12 of Hython's rebounds came on the defensive boards.
Deshon Burgess scored 15 points and
Greg King added 10 off the bench. Union shot 33% for the night and had just 10 turnovers. Union also outrebounded Hamilton, 48-45.
Michael Grassey led all players with 21 points for the Continentals, and he had a double-double with 12 rebounds (11 defensively). Andrew Groll scored 13 points and Jack Dwyer added eight for the hosts, whoe shot 33% but made 80% of their free throw attempts (12-15).
Union took a 38-29 lead into halftime. McNamara scored 15 of his points in the second half. A Grassey three point play with 11:28 to play in the second half made it a 10 point deficit at 53-43, and later the lead was down to eight at 64-56 with 3:31 left. But Union scored six straight for a 14 point lead with 1:10 left and McNamara's two free throws with 52 seconds to play gave Union a 14 point advantage at 72-58.
The Dutchmen are back in Liberty League play Friday night at St. Lawrence at 8 p.m.
