SCHENECTADY, NY -- Jackie Hagopian scored four goals with two assists and
Cailin Pandolfi,
Maggie Comiskey and
Natalie Sullivan had four points each as #19 Union College opened the season with a 16-7 victory over Buffalo State at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday. The Bengals also opened their season in this non-league contest.
Pandolfi and Sullivan had three goals with an assist each and Comiskey had four assists in the triumph. Union outshot Buffalo State, 31-17 and had a 21-16 ground ball advantage. The Dutchwomen were 11 for 14 in clears and converted two free position goals.
Hallie Stone made three saves in the first half for Union while
Jen Hughes also made three saves in the second 30 minutes.
Alanna Herne scored four goals for Buffalo State, which was 13 for 18 in clears. Elyse Stark made 13 saves for the vistors, including 11 in the first half.
Hagopian opened the scoring at 29:07 but Herne scored at 27:02 and gave Buffalo State a 2-1 lead with 22:58 left in the first half. But Pandolfi scored at 19:49 and again 46 seconds later for a 3-2 Union lead. The Dutchwomen scored eight straight capped by a
Jessica Farland goal with 2:52 left in the first half before Christian Krowel tallied with 1:10 left in the half, and it was 11-3 Union at halftime.
Union scored three straight in the first 8:49 of the second half for a 15-3 lead, and the Bengals scored four of the last five in 12:55 for the 16-7 final. Farland scored twice and Union also got goals by
Laura Pacheco,
Kellie Cronin,
Allison Horst and
Ramsey Walsh.
Krowel scored twice and Ruggieri also tallied for the Bengals.
Union is back in action on March 10 to host SUNY Cortland, which is ranked #1 in this week's IWLCA poll.
