SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College softball team completed the opening week of the season during the spring break with Thursday games vs. MIT and Southern Maine. The Dutchwomen lost to Southern Maine, 7-4 and finished the day with a 10-2 loss to MIT.
In the opener, Southern Maine scored three in the first to erase a 1-0 Union lead, and finished with eight hits. Amber Kelly improved to 5-0 on the season with the complete game win, striking out five. She also scored two runs. Danni Humphrey had two hits and drove in four runs for Southern Maine.
Dana Dolinko and
Courtney Casey had two hits each for the Dutchwomen, who also had eight hits for the game.
Dani Hennel struck out one and allowed two earned runs in her six innings of work.
MIT scored four in the first and three in the second. Amanda Lee had three RBIs and Kim Veldeehad a home run for the Engineers with two RBIs. Lisa Zhu had two fo the 11 hits and Ravenne Nasser started with two innings of no hit ball with a strikeout. Amber VanHemel had seven strikeouts in four innings. Union was held to four hits and
Kara Brown and
Joanna Chalifoux each drove in a run.
Union heads back North and is back in action Wednesday at Utica at 3:30 p.m.
