SCHENECTADY, NY—The Union College men's lacrosse team fell 14-5 to the No. 14 St. Lawrence Saints in their Liberty League opener at Frank Bailey Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Saint's Conor Healy got the game rolling with back-to-back goals to open the first period. SLU followed it up with two additional goals. Union trailed 4-0 after the first.
The Dutchmen opened the second quarter with two goals to close the gap.
Josh Freilich and
Thomas Stanton both found the back of the net. Freilich's goal was assisted by
Nolan Stauffer and Stanton's goal was unassisted. St. Lawrence tallied two additional goals to lead 6-2 at the half.
Union's
Jordan Cooper found the back of the net in the third quarter, but SLU racked in an additional four goals. The Saints had an 11-3 lead after three.
The Dutchmen's
Sean Hanley and
Paul Alberti both were able to put the biscuit in the basket. Hanley's goal was assisted by
Daniel Caiola, while Alberti's man-up goal was assisted by
Peter Richardson.
Union finished 13-22 on face-offs, they also finished with 32 groundballs and 16 saves.
The Dutchmen take on St. John Fisher on Wednesday, March 30 at 4 p.m., at Frank Bailey Field.Â
