SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY—The Union College men's lacrosse team defeated Liberty League opponent Skidmore 13-6 on Wednesday evening.
The Thoroughbreds scored first, but
Peter Richardson ended that with two goals in the first.
Sean Hanley added another one with 12 seconds remaining to put Union up 3-2.
The Dutchmen opened the second period with two goals in the first minute of play.
Josh Freilich and
Nolan Stauffer each scored. Skidmore tried to fight back by putting two on the board, but Union's Richardson put an end to that by completing his hat trick on the evening. At the end of the second quarter, Union led 7-4.
Skidmore scored two goals in the third, to bring the score within one before Union went on a 6-0 run that lasted over 18 minutes. Stauffer started the run with three minutes to go in the third.
Union led 8-6 to open the fourth quarter. Four players tallied five goals over the remaining 15 minutes. Hanley opened up the period, followed by
Kyle Mason and
Sean Pensavalle each finding the back of the net.
John Edmonds punched in two goals late in the game.
Thomas Stanton,
Tom Lawton and
Charlie McGovern recorded three groundballs each, while Lawton went 11-21 from the faceoff X.
Sam Bebout made 11 saves in the 58:49 minutes played.
The Dutchmen head to Rochester, N.Y., where they will take on Liberty League foe Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, April 16 at 12 p.m.
