ROCHESTER, NY – Natalie Sullivan scored all three of her goals seven minutes apart early in the second half as Union College pulled away for a 12-6 women's lacrosse victory over the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium. The Dutchwomen have won seven straight.
Union boosted its Liberty League-leading record to 5-0 in the league, 8-2 overall. Rochester is 0-4 in the league, 3-8 overall. Rochester hosts William Smith
on Saturday at 2 pm. Union goes to RIT at
3 pm.
Maggie Comiskey,
Laura Pacheco,
Jessica Farland, and
Cailin Pandolfi each scored two goals for Union.
Ramsey Walsh had one. Comiskey, Pacheco, and
Kellie Cronin had one assist apiece.
Madeline Levy scored three times for Rochester. Jamie Wallisch, Cassie Mahar, and Breanna Taylor scored one goal. Levy and Mara Karpp had assists.
Jen Hughes made nine saves in goal for Union in the full 60 minutes. Maire Prosak made five saves in 38:46. She was replaced by Conley Ernst who made five saves and allowed two goals in
21:14.
Pacheco scored two goals in less than two minutes – both from the free position - to put Union ahead, 3-1, midway through the first half. Taylor converted a pass from Levy with
9:51 left in the period, drawing Rochester within 3-2. Farland closed the half with two unassisted goals in the last five minutes. Union was deadly in the early minutes of the second half. The Dutchwomen scored five goals in
8:46, matching their first half total. Rochester's goal in that stretch was a free position shot by Levy. Sullivan had her hat trick in the burst. Comiskey (assisted by Cronin) and Pandolfi had the other goals.
The lead built to nine, 12-3, with
13:24 left before Rochester found a bit of an offensive rhythm. The Yellowjackets scored three times in the last
11:47 - two from Levy and one by Cassie Mahar. Rochester had some strong scoring chances in the latter stages of the first half, but fired over the bar several times. Ernst made some key saves for Rochester in her 21 minutes, thwarting a number of opportunities.
