SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior attack
Maggie Comiskey had a career high nine assists and added a goal in Union College's 17-9 win over Vassar College at Frank Bailey Field Friday afternoon.
Jackie Hagopian scored five goals and
Natalie Sullivan had three scores and an assist for the Dutchwomen. Vassar is now 6-8 overall and 2-6 in the Liberty League.
Comiskey's nine assists tied Devin Sutko of Centenary for the most assists in a game by any NCAA Div. III player this season. Sutko had nine assists vs. Rosemont on March 23. She is the 10th player this year in all of the NCAA divisions (I, II, III) to have nine or more assists in a game.
Entering Saturday's final regular season day, Union and William Smith are tied atop the Liberty League standings at 7-1 with Clarkson third at 6-2. William Smith holds the tie breaker for first due to last weekend's 11-9 home win and both teams are playoff bound. Vassar is at William Smith Saturday while Union hosts Bard at 3 p.m. for Senior Day. The Dutchwomen have won nine of the last 11.
The Dutchwomen got two goals each by
Cailin Pandolfi and
Jessica Farland and along with Comiskey, other players with single goals were
Jessica Farland,
Caroline McGuire,
Laura Pacheco,
Ashley Allington and
Elena Driscoll.
Jen Hughes made two saves and
Hallie Stone saw just under 19 minutes of play and made three stops.
Kate Kurchena had seven draw controls while
Kellie Cronin led the Dutchwomen with five ground balls and Pacheco caused three turnovers.
Isabelle Goldstein led the Brewers with five goals and an assist. Julia Trudell had two goals and three assists and Storm Sideleau had two scores. Goldstein had six shots and Trudell won five draws while causing four turnovers.
Union had a 33-18 shot advantage and also had 21 ground balls to Vassar's 18. Both teams had eight clears and Union converted on four of 10 free position shots.
Union led 4-0 with 22:08 left in the first and after a Vassar score at 21:27, th Dutchwomen scored five straight for a 9-1 lead with 9:22 left in a wide open first half. Vassar scored three straight then the teams traded gaosl in the final four minutes for a 10-5 Union lead at halftime. Union opened it up with five straight, including the first two of the second half by Pandolfi, for a 15-5 lead with 18:42 to play, and also led by 10 goals twice more in the contest.
