SCHENECTADY, NY -- Cailin Pandolfi scored three goals and
Maggie Comiskey had four points to lead Union College to a 7-4 Liberty League women's lacrosse win over St. Lawrence University at Frank Bailey Field Friday. The Dutchwomen, winners of five straight, are in first in league play with a 3-0 mark and stand 6-2 overall. The Saints are now 2-1 in the league and 6-5 for the season.
Pandolfi also had an assist and
Jackie Hagopian scored twice with an assist while Comiskey and
Kellie Cronin each tallied once for Union.
Laura Pacheco and
Ramsey Walsh each assisted for the Dutchwomen.
Jen Hughes made seven saves in the home net, including five in the first half.
Paige Smith had a gme high five ground balls and Cronin caused three turnovers. Union won 10 of the 13 draw controls and was successful on 13 of 14 clears. Both teams had 23 ground balls.
Chloe Knapp scored twice for the Saints while Kayla Schmatz and Abigail Owens added one goal each. Olga Lewis made seven saves for the Saints, with five coming in the second half. St. Lawrence outshot Union, 19-16 and scored on one of the five free position opportunities. Four Saints had three ground balls each and Kiera Taussig caused three turnovers.
Union took a 1-0 lead at 28:47 on Hagopian's first goal, but Knapp tied it just 2:26 later. Comiskey assisted on the next two scores, at 25:43 by Hagopian and 22:56 by Pandolfi, then scored at 21:06 for a 4-1 Union lead. Knapp scored at 12:35 and after Schmatz scored with just 2:59 left in the first half, the Union lead was down to one at 4-3. But with just on second remaining Pandolfi made it 5-3.
Pandolfi's third of the day and 14th of th season season came at 21:58 of the second half, and Cronin made it 7-3 with 18:54 left. The Saints' final tally came by Owens with her 18th with 2:02 to play.
Union hosts Clarkson Saturday at 3 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field while St. Lawrence also continues Liberty League play with a 3 p.m. game at William Smith.
