North Adams, MA- The Union College Men's Soccer team shot out to a 4-0 halftime lead and cruised past the Johnson State Badgers 8-0 on day two of the CIAO Soccer Classic held at MCLA.
Union's
Ethan Strauss got the scoring started in the 12th minute when he got just enough of a header off an
Andrew Fontaine corner for an early 1-0 lead. Â In the 21st minute, Fontaine was taken down in the box and he calmly converted the penalty kick making it 2-0 in favor of Union.
Just three minutes later,
Yasin Dombayci would find the back of the net with
Salvador Lopez Jr. earning the assist. Â
Jeremy Conn would complete the first half scoring in the 34th minute and Union took the 4-0 lead into halftime.
Union quickly added to the lead in the opening minutes of the second half when
Pedram Malakian and
Connor Horan tallied in the first five minutes making it 6-0 and the rout was on. Â
Vincent Oliveto and
Nicholas DeLuca notched the final goals to close out the game for Union.
With the win, the Dutchmen improve to 4-1 on the season. Union will be back on the pitch Saturday when they host SUNY Canton at College Park.
