SCHENECTADY, NY – Erin Landy scored two goals to lead SUNY New Paltz to a 5-3 non-league field hockey victory over Union College at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday night.
The Hawks are now 3-1 while the Dutchwomen stand 2-2.
Megan Gagewere made four saves for the guests while Laura Aptowitz stopped 11 for the Dutchwomen. New Paltz had a 20-10 shot advantage and 20 penalty corners for the night.
The Hawks opened the scoring at 3:56 when Serena Capsello scored her second of the year. She got a pass from the middle from Kayla McKeveny and scored from the goalie's left post. Union tied it at 9:28 when Charlotte Leyland scored for the third time this fall. Her shot from the right of the goalie from six yards out came with an assist from Hannah Christian.
The Hawks then scored the next three for a 4-1 lead. Justin O'Reilly notched #4 for the year from a side pass from Sophia Urrutia at 28:27. Just 2:26 later Landry scored from a shot deflected from eight yards out and an assist to McKeveny. Landy added her second of the day and of the year just 1:12 later with an assist by Kaitlyn Gunter on a bouncing ball from six yards out in the middle.
Christian's second of the year at 34:45 made it 4-2, as Alexa Steriti took the corner and fed Christian at the top of the circle.
In the second half, Christian's second of the game at 58:23 made it a one goal game with an unassisted tally in a crowd in front of the net. McKeveny got the two goal lead back (5-3) at 63:29 with her third of the year 10 yards out on the left side.
Union is at Babson Saturday at 1 p.m.
