SCHENECTADY, NY—First-year forward
Linsey Giles scored in the 88th minute to lift the Union College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win against New Paltz on Wednesday night at College Park.
The Dutchwomen improve to 2-3, while the Hawks go to 1-5-1.
Union sophomore goalkeeper
Kelsey Hartsoe stopped all three shots she faced for her second consecutive shutout and
Sydney Keane registered her first assist of the season.
Allie Supranowicz looked to have given the Dutchwomen a 1-0 lead in the 24
th minute, guiding home a
Nicole Sturno cross, but the goal was scored from an offside position.
The Dutchwomen threatened again just over seven minutes later when Keane had her headed attempt cleared off the line by a New Paltz defender.
Union continued to control play for the half, holding the Hawks without a shot until Sloane Lipsie's long range effort was easily handled by Hartsoe in the 39th minute.
The second half proved to be more of the same, with the Dutchwomen outshooting the Hawks 16-4, but it took until the dying minutes to find the winner.
Keane beat a defender and slipped a pass to Giles, who tucked her left-footed strike from the top of the 18-yard box into the bottom right corner for her first career tally.
Union outshot New Paltz 29-6 and owned an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks. Hawks goalkeeper Angela Ratka finished with a season-high 10 saves.
