Leyland leads 3-1 win at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, NY – Charlotte Leyland scored a goal with an assist to lead Union to a 3-1 non-league win over Morrisville State at Drake Field Tuesday night. The Dutchwomen are now 3-3.

Union got on the board first in the 14th minute of play when Leyland took Rachel Andreana's sideline pass and deposited it into the left corner of the cage.  Union also posted the second goal of the game in the 23rd minute.  Sephanie Resnick drove into the Mustangs' defense and slipped a pass left to Angelina Stewart for the score and a 2-0 lead at the end of the half.

Morrisville cut the lead to 2-1 in the 41st minute.  Meghan Holcomb drove into the right side of the circle and dumped a pass back and to her left to the waiting stick of Lauren Kellum, who then blasted a shot through the Union defense and past the Dutchwomen's keeper.

Despite picking up eight penalty corners in the second half, the Mustangs were unable to punch another goal in and were ultimately outdone when Union added an insurance goal in the 51st minute of action by Stephanie Resnick.

Union opens the Liberty League season at home Saturday against Rochester at 3:00 p.m.
