SCHENECTADY, NY—The Union College women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Skidmore, Tuesday night at College Park in the Liberty League opener for both teams.
The Dutchwomen, who played their third overtime contest in five games, go to 2-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in league play, while the Thoroughbreds move to 3-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the league.
Union sophomore goalkeeper
Kelsey Hartsoe had a career-high 11 saves, the best of which came with 3:48 remaining in regulation to deny Emily Saliterman's strike headed inside the far post.
After a first half that saw the two teams combine for just three shots on goal, Skidmore came out firing in the second. The Thoroughbreds registered six shots on frame in the opening 20 minutes of the stanza, but Hartsoe was up to the task, turning away all six.
Skidmore threatened late in the frame when Saliterman curled strike from the top of the 18 toward the right post, but again Hartsoe was there for Union, going full stretch to parry shot around the post.
The Dutchwomen could not convert on back-to-back corners in the final minute, sending the game to overtime.
Union's best chance in overtime came from a
Christine Hill strike that sailed just over the crossbar. Hartsoe added two more saves in overtime to preserve her second career shutout.
The Thoroughbreds outshot the Dutchwomen 23-12, while Union owned an 8-6 edge in corners.
Union, which has conceded just one goal in its last four games, hosts Liberty League rival Bard at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24.
