Men's Soccer Falls to New Paltz in Overtime

SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union men's soccer team suffered its first home loss of the season at the hands of SUNY-New Paltz.

Late into the second overtime, the ball fell to the feet of New Paltz's Sam Spring who fired a shot on net. The ball deflected off of a Union defender and had eyes to the back of the net giving the Hawks a 2-1 victory in overtime at College Park.

Spring opened up the scoring in the 11th minute when Luke Dole found him on a through ball in the box and he slotted it far post beating Union keeper John Weitzman. This was the first time that an opponent had scored at College Park this season.

The Dutchmen played on the front foot throughout much of the second half. Union found the equalizer when Salvador Lopez Jr. drilled a shot off of a half volley into the top of the net in the 74th minute. Another Kushaina recorded his third assist of the season.

The game remained tied until the game winner in the second overtime. Weitzman recorded four saves in the game while New Paltz's John Guzzo tallied two stops.

Union is back on the pitch Oct. 5 when it hosts RPI in a Liberty League clash. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at College Park.
