UTICA, NY - The Union College women's volleyball team grabbed a pair of victories over Stevens Institute of Technology and Farmingdale State in the opening day of the Utica Tournament.
Stevens came into its match against with a record of 15-1. The Ducks put Union into a 0-2 (24-26, 19-25) hole before the Dutchwomen rallied to take the next three sets (25-20, 25-22, 16-14) behind a 21 kill performance from
Ally VanDoren and 17 kills from
Emma Sprotbery. Steven's had a difficult time slowing down the Union offense in the fifth set as the Dutch finished the set with a .435 attack percentage grabbing the decisive final frame.
In the second match of the night, Union faced off against Farmingdale State. The Dutchwomen went on to take the first set 25-23. It was a historic frame for
Katherine Moeller as she became the third player in program history to eclipse the 2,000 career dig mark. After making history, Union made quick work of the Rams in the final two sets of the match 25-13 and 25-11 respectively.
Union is back on the court tomorrow in the final day of the Utica Tournament as it plays Plattsburgh State and Lasell College.
