HANOVER, NH - First year forward
Jordi Naidrich netted her second career goal for the Union College women's hockey team in a loss at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH Friday night.
After a scoreless first five minutes, the Big Green found the scoreboard as a connection from Christina Rombaut to Caroline Shaunessy broke the deadlock. Alyssa Baker was also credited with an assist on the goal at 5:28 of the first period.
After making eight saves in the first period, Dutchwomen goaltender
Kate Spooner continued to shut the door on the Big Green as she saved all 11 shots that came her way in the second period. Spooner added 13 more saves in the final period to give her 32 in total.
The Dutchwomen had one of their best opportunities at a goal early in the second period when
Brandy Streeter – fresh out of the box – skated through the Big Green defenders and fired at Dartmouth goalie Robyn Chemago, but her shot was deflected over the crossbar.
Heading into the final period, Union trailed by a goal. Dartmouth streched its lead to two at the 8:06 mark when Eleni Tebano found the back of the net. Rombaut and Baker again assisted on the goal.
The breakthrough for the Dutchwomen came on the powerplay at the 16:39 mark of the period. A shot from
Haley Shugart bounced off the goalie and during the scramble the puck found the stick of Naidrich who calmly put it in the back of the net.
Ava Reynolds also had an assist on the play.
Union is back on the ice tomorrow traveling to Boston, MA for a game with Harvard University. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The Crimson fell to RPI Friday night by a final score of 3-1.
