Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Earns First Ever Win Over Harvard

BOSTON, MA - With under a minute to play in overtime, the puck popped out to the center stripe. Senior Emily Erickson jumped on it and headed towards the Harvard University net. Her inital shot on goalie Molly Tissenbaum was saved. With Tissenbaum scrambling in front of her net, Katie Laughlin came flying into to get the rebound popping it over the goalie and into the back of the net to give the Union College women's hockey team a 3-2 win in overtime.

This was the Dutchwomen's first ever win in the series with the Crimson.

Just two minutes into the game, Union earned the first powerplay of the game. Coming into the game, the Dutchwomen had scored powerplay goals in five of the last six games. They would extend that streak when a Caitlyn McLaren shot from the point weaved its way through traffic before a final deflection off of a Harvard defender. The puck found the back of the net to give the Dutchwomen the breakthrough goal at 2:47 of the first.

Harvard would answer later in the period when Lexie Laing found the back of the net to tie the game at 17:38. Just 10 seconds later, Haley Mullins gave the Crimson the lead at 2-1.

They would hold that lead into the second period. Union would not it up at 2-2 when Ava Reynolds jumped over the board and the puck immediately found her stick. She fired a shot towards net that took a deflection off of Rachel de Perio's skate and then a Harvard defender before finding the back of the net.

Kate Spooner made 40 saves to earn her fourth victory of the season. She now holds the record for most wins by a rookie goalie in Union history.

The Dutchwomen are back on the ice next weekend for a two game series with RPI. Union hosts the Engineers on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Messa Rink.
