Hoboken, NJ – The Union College women's volleyball team split on the day with a victory against Stockton University, and then falling to Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Dutchwomen won set one, 3-2 in five frames, (29-27, 25-18, 15-25, 22-25, 15-13). They dropped game two in four sets (26-28, 25-13, 21-25, 26-28).
Match One:
In an all around team battle, the Dutchwomen played strong five sets through to clinch the victory against Stockton. As a team, Union swung .214.
Lara Atalay led the team with 15 kills.
Gillian Gore and
Stephanie Libonati also contributed offensively with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
Sage Shimamoto had the match high of 54 assists.
Alaina Thaxter had seven kills on 12 attempts in tonight's game, with no errors. She had the match high attack percentage (.583). Libonati also swung .423.
The Dutchwomen out-served Stockton, six aces to three.
Match Two:
Coming off of a great team victory, the Dutch fought hard again in match two. In the three sets they lost, the point deficit was no more than four points. Comparatively, Union was neck and neck with FDU in nearly every category. Union had 67 match points to FDU's 68, 88 digs to FDU's 87 and 51 kills to FDU's 57 total kills.
Shimamoto again had the match high for assists with 49. She also had five kills on 13 attempts (.308). Libonati also had 13 kills on 28 attempts (.357).
Stat of the Day:
23 - Brianne Hallock had 23 digs in each of tonight's matches. The senior now has a total of 495 digs on the season. She averages 4.90 digs per set.
