ROCHESTER, NY - After taking the Tigers to five sets, the Dutchwomen ultimately fell to RIT two sets to three.
After splitting the first four sets at two a piece, Union was out hitting RIT .122 to .110. However, the Tigers did hold a 50-39 kill advantage over the Dutch. Despite having more kills in the first four sets, Union had only 22 attack errors through four sets, and RIT had 33. The Dutchwomen had 10 service aces and just six reception errors heading into the decisive set.
Tied at six a piece in the fifth set, Gillian Gore crushed a Sage Shimamoto set to put the Dutchwomen ahead, 7-6. The farthest lead the Dutchwomen would have during the last set would be just two points. Ultimately, the Dutch would fall in the fifth set as RIT would make a come back and win, 15-13. Tonight's match brings Union at an 11-18 overall record and 1-5 in Liberty League play.
Gore led Union with 19 kills on 55 attempts and Stephanie Libonati led in attack percentage with .185. Shimamoto had 44 assists on the day. Overall, Union had 12 service aces against the Tigers, with Brianne Hallock, Caroline Everts and Libonati each having three of their own.
Lara Atalay also added a team high 14 digs to the night.
The Dutchwomen return to action tomorrow afternoon at Ithaca College. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
