Hasan, Stewart lead the way in shutout victory

SCHENECTADY, NY - Out shooting Morrisville State, 38 to six, proved to be critical for the Dutchwomen in this evening's 4-0 victory.

Union had four different offensive contributors to help lead the way for the Dutch. In the first half, the Dutchwomen would earn 10 corners and hold off the Mustangs to zero corner opportunities. Overall, the Dutchwomen out cornered Morrisville 21 to zero.

With roughly 10 minutes to go in the first half, Abigail Torgerson set herself up on the left side of the net. As defenders closed in on her, she was able to make a clean pass off to Senior Sayyida Hasan. Hasan knocked in her first goal of the season and earned her first point since her sophomore campaign.

Coming out of half time with a 1-0 advantage, the flood gates continued to open, in favor of the Dutchwomen. Just three minutes into the second half, Laura Wind would notch her second goal of the season. After a powerful strike from Charlotte Leyland that would ultimately be saved by the goalie, Wind was able to tip it in and help Union go up 2-0.

Union's corner game was strong tonight, as the latter half of the Dutch's goals would be immediate results of effective corner executions. In the 51st minute, Sarah Wilkinson would take a corner. Wilkinson's first pass went to Rachel Andreana, who quickly rushed it to Hannah Christian. Christian netted her second goal of the season and third goal of the evening for Union. With seven minutes to go in the game, another Wilkinson corner made its way to Angelina Stewart, who netted her first goal of the season in her first appearance of the season, due to injury. Stewart's goal solidified the Dutchwomen victory at 4-0.

Tonight's shutout victory from Heather Poisson makes her the first Union goalkeeper to post back to back shutouts since Molly McCune shutout Ramapo (2-0) on Sept. 25, 2013 and Elms College (4-0) on Oct. 2, 2013. Poisson led the Dutch to a 1-0 shutout over Vassar on Sunday, Oct. 22 in addition to tonight's win.

Union College field hockey will conclude its 2017 season on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 12 p.m. on Frank Bailey Field against Utica College. The Dutchwomen will also be honoring their graduating student-athletes for senior day.
