Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dutchmen earn first Liberty League victory over Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - With one game left to go in the season, the Union College men's soccer team earned their first conference win in a 2-1 victory over Bard College this evening.

The Dutchmen were able to maintain victory, despite being out shot 7-11 with shots on goal. Union's keeper, John Weitzman, remained the steady hand this evening, as he had 10 saves. Tonight's game puts Weitzman at 190 career saves.

Union got the scoring rolling this evening early on. Just 10 minutes into the match, Yasin Dombayci earned a penalty kick. Dombayci took full advantage of the opportunity and was able to notch the first goal of the night for the Dutch, and his first goal of the season.

Shortly after Dombayci's strike, Dan Cannon had a goal of his own. In the 16th minute of play, Griffin Cowles would reach Cannon on a through ball at the top of the box. Cannon would ultimately net the ball and give Union the 2-0 advantage.

Bard threatened Union's lead, early on in the second half. In the 58th minute, Raptor Lucas Bourgine would score his third goal of the season off a free kick.

Despite Bourgine's goal, Union managed to hold onto the win and earn their first Liberty League victory this season. The Dutchmen will conclude their 2017 season this Saturday at 2 p.m. at RIT.
