SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College volleyball team swept The Sage Colleges this evening in a swift three set match.
The Dutchwomen out scored Sage, 75 to 29 tonight, in what was also Union's senior night, to honor three graduating student-athletes, Brianne Hallock, Gillian O'Dowd and Abby Salamone.Â
Hallock has appeared in 401 sets in her tenure at Union. She has 93 career assists, with 61 coming from just this season. She is also a member of the 1,000 dig club with 1,107 digs in her career, including tonight's match. This is a feat she shares with just 13 other Dutchwomen in program history.
O'Dowd has seen action in 87 sets for the garnet and white, where she has contributed 71 kills and 21 total blocks. She was also a two-time member of the Liberty League All-Academic Team.
Salamone registered 556 assists, 256 digs and 58 service aces in her four year playing career at Union, including tonight's totals. She has been a fellow tri-captain with Hallock and O'Dowd this season and a member of the 2016 Liberty League All Academic Team.
Union was strong and consistent offensively against Sage tonight. Gillian Gore led the way with a match high, 15 kills on 23 attempts (.652). She also had no attack errors. Julia Louis had nine kills and hit .438, while Stephanie Libonati had a strong showing with six kills on 12 attempts and just one attack error.
Hallock had eight digs on the night and Salamone also had five of her own. Gore had the match high, 13 digs.
Sage Shimamoto dished 36 assists tonight and also had five service aces. Senior Salamone had three aces of her own which brings her to 13 aces on the season, second most on the team.
The Dutchwomen return to action tomorrow at noon and 2 p.m. against New Paltz and UMass Boston to conclude their 2017 season.
