SCHENECTADY, NY – Laura Wind scored with 4:01 remaining in regulation and Heather Poisson made a career high 22 saves as the Union College field hockey team defeated visiting Hartwick College, 3-2 at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday night.
The Dutchwomen are now 4-4 after their third win in the last four games, while the Hawks fell to 7-4.
Wind took a pass from Ciara Lyne three yards out and scored at the 65:59 mark to break the tie. Bella Wheeler scored her fourth of the season at 60:10 for Hartwick to tie the contest at 2-2 at 60:10, with an assist from Marissa Downes. That goal found the left of the net from inside three yards.
Union took a 2-1 lead on Jenna Smith's second of the year on an unassisted goal just 1:35 into the second half.
The Hawks scored first just 2:37 into the game. Claudia Stone notched her eighth of the season when she picked up a rebound off the stick of Jenna Sobol and put it inside the far right post.
The Dutchwomen tied it at 1-1 with 20:03 remaining in the first half. Hannah Christian's first of the season came off a corner and an assist from Jenna Smith.
Hartwick had a 29-11 shot advantage, and outshot Union 18-3 in the first half. The visitors also had 13 corners to Union's eight. Poisson made 15 of her saves in the first half. Allyson Osborne stopped four shots for the Hawks.
Charlotte Leyland had a team high four shots for Union while Stone had nine, with seven on net, and Allyson Quirk had six of her seven shots on net.
Union plays at home for the third straight game when the Dutchwomen host Ramapo Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field.
