SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College field hockey team outlasted Ramapo College this afternoon 3-2 to advance to 5-4 overall on the season.
The Dutchwomen came out strong this evening, playing an evenly matched game with the Roadrunners. However, Union would be the first to strike. With 10 minutes to go in the first half, Union earned a corner.
Rachel Andreana took the corner. From there,
Charlotte Leyland took a shot but with a deflection off the post, Andreana was ready to strike again and helped the ball find its way to the backboard.
Ramapo responded less than two minutes later and settled the score at one goal apiece. Despite the response, the Dutchwomen refused to go into the halftime break without an advantage. With just 20 seconds to go in the first half
Alexa Puleio scored off a
Laura Wind assist.
Puleio struck twice for the Dutchwomen this evening, as she would score again, 10 minutes into the second half.
Hannah Christian took a shot that deflected off Ramapo's goalie and Puleio would help push the ball across the line. Christian was awarded the assist.
Ramapo refused to go down without a fight however, and they would score again in the 55
th minute. Ultimately, the Dutchwomen were able to outlast Ramapo and take home the victory, 3-2.
Goalkeeper
Mary Beth Rudolf had nine saves in the victory and Union out shot the Roadrunners 25-17.
The Dutchwomen return to action this Saturday at noon against St. Lawrence University.
