SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The Dutchwomen fell in another five set match this evening to Liberty League matchup Skidmore, 3-2. The Dutchwomen fall 0-3 in conference play, Skidmore advances to 2-1.
The Thoroughbreds outhit Union .142 to .092, despite the Dutchwomen having 56 kills to Skidmore's 47. Union, however, continues to show signs of brilliance from the end line, as they aced Skidmore seven times on the match and 155 total times this season.
Gillian Gore and
Brianne Hallock led the defense, match-wide, as each player had 24 and 26 kills, respectively. At the front line,
Julia Louis and
Stephanie Libonati led Union's offense. Louis had 17 kills on the evening, and Libonati had 14 kills on 32 attempts (.250). Union's offense can credit much of their success to
Sage Shimamoto who continues to run the offense. Shimamoto had a career high 49 assists in the match.
Stat of the Day
49 - Shimamoto has dished 49 assists in a single game, twice in her career. The first was on Sept. 14 against Springfield College. With tonight's match, Shimamoto has 675 career assists.
The Dutchwomen return to action this Friday at the Viniar Center. The evening will be a double header match up at 6 & 8 p.m. and will be Union's Dig Pink match to raise awareness for breast cancer research.
