SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College women's volleyball team split this evening in a double header matchup between Bard College and Wesleyan University.
Match One:
The Dutchwomen came out strong against Bard College winning three sets to none (25-17, 25-23, 25-17). Union out-hit Bard .020 to .183, and the Dutch's defense responded well to any Bard attacking threats. The team totaled 51 digs in the match.
Gillian Gore and
Stephanie Libonati led the offense for match one with 15 and seven kills, respectively. Gore's 15 kills were a match high.
Julia Louis also proved to be efficient for the Dutch's offense with five kills on 14 attempts (.214).
Defensively, senior captain
Brianne Hallock led the way. She had a team high of 14, and Gore contributed 11. First year
Kaylee Velasquez had seven digs of her own.
The Dutchwomen earned their first Liberty League conference victory with the win over Bard.
Match Two:
In what proved to be a thrilling four-set battle of a match between Union and Wesleyan University, Wesleyan ultimately took the win.
Gore again led the match with 15 kills and Libonati performed incredibly at the front line. The first year went 12 for 22 with a .545 efficiency percentage. She had no attacking errors in the match.
Sage Shimamoto had 67 assists on the day.
Stat of the Day
8 - Libonati had eight service aces on the day. She had six out of the team's eight service aces in match one, and two in match two.
