Dutchwomen draw with Nittany Lions

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The Union College women's ice hockey team earned a draw in this afternoon's match up against Penn State University. 

After a scoreless first period, first year Helen Markovic got things rolling with a power play goal. Her goal came about halfway through the second period, off assists from Arianna Kosakowski and Caitlyn McLaren.

Markovic's goal would go unanswered until five minutes into the third period when Nittany Lion Katie Rankin got one past Union to settle the score. Neither Union or Penn State were able to strike again, thus, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.

Inside the Box Score:
  • Markovic's goal was the first of her career as a Dutchwoman.
  • Goalie Coco Francis made her collegiate debut for Union College this afternoon. Francis had 27 saves.
  • Kosakowski continues to find herself in the heart of Union's play action. She currently leads the team with four points on the season. 
  • As a team, Union has five goals on the season. Kosakowski has contributed to four of those five with one assist, from this afternoon, and three goals. 
  • PSU out shot the Dutchwomen 28-21.

The Dutchwomen return to action next Tuesday at the University of Vermont. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. and will be game three of Union's five-game road stretch.
