SCHENECTADY, NY - The Liberty League's selected favorites for the 2017-18 season proved their stature this afternoon, as RIT defeated the Union College women's basketball team, 83-41.
RIT led 25-9 after the first quarter, and 46-16 at the half. The Tigers tacked on 15 points in the third quarter, and 22 points in the fourth, while allowing the Dutchwomen 25 second-half points. The Dutch made 16-of-50 from the floor, but went six for eight from the charity stripe.
Sophie Borg and
Kolby McKenzie led Union with eight points apiece.
Corina Lindsay grabbed six rebounds for the Dutchwomen, who shot 32.0 percent from the floor.
The Tigers held a 47-30 rebounding edge, and made 34 points off turnovers. The Dutchwomen had just five points off turnovers and three second-chance points.
The Dutchwomen drop to 1-1 in Liberty League play, but return to actionWednesday for a midweek game against Hamilton College. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
