ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (16-8, 10-6 Liberty League) women's basketball team celebrated Senior night and closed out the regular season with a 75-60 win over Union College (12-11, 8-7 Liberty League). The win was RIT's sixth in its last seven games, allowing them to clinch a Liberty League playoff berth. Union was eliminated from the tourney with the loss.
RIT shot 44.6 percent from the floor on 25-of-56 shooting. The Tigers went 6-of-14 from beyond the arc, and were 19-of-25 from the foul line. Three Tigers scored in double-figures led by 21 points from Cori Okada. Jessica Glaz tallied 18 points, while Tara Lynch scored 14 points and had seven rebounds. Julia Bender finished with eight rebounds. Sydney Frank finished with nine points, five rebounds and three steals.
Erin Lyons led Union with 13 points and 10 rebounds, her third career double-double.
Sophie Borg tallied 12 and grabbed nine points for the Dutchwomen who shot 34.8 percent from the floor.
RIT trailed 17-16 after the first quarter. The Tigers were down 17-12 late in the quarter, but rallied as Glaz scored the final four points to cut the lead to 17-16. The Tigers took the lead with 6:31 to play in the second quarter on a 3-pointer from Taylor Burns. Katz drained two free throws with 2:58 in the second quarter to cut the RIT lead to 27-24. RIT outscored Union 10-2 over the final 2:58 to lead 37-26 at the half. A Glaz layup with two seconds to play in the half capped off the run by RIT.
The Tigers scored 20 points in the third quarter to lead 57-40.
Alexa Morin scored for Union with 5:39 to play in the quarter to cut the RIT lead to 41-32. As in the second quarter, RIT closed out the stanza strong, outscoring the Dutchwomen 16-8 to lead by 17 points heading into the fourth quarter.
RIT opened the fourth quarter scoring the first seven points. A Glaz 3-pointer at the 8:30 mark of quarter gave the TIgers a 64-40 lead, their largest of the game to that point.
Union ends the season Sunday with a 2 p.m. game vs. William Smith on Senior Day.
