Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Shugart nets seventh of season in loss to Colgate

Hamilton, NY - Down a goal in first period, Rachel de Perio forced it ahead to Emily Erickson along the right wing wall. Erickson picked up her head and found a streaking Haley Shugart on the left wing and Shugart knocked in the one timer to tie the game at 1-1 at the 13:51 mark.

The Union College women's hockey team would fall to Colgate University 4-1 Saturday afternoon in Hamilton, NY.

The Dutchwomen had two powerplay opportunities in the first period and on their second chance the puck found junior defenseman Brandy Streeter at the top of the point. Streeter attempted a slapshot but, her stick snapped in half sending Jessie Eldridge on the breakaway.

With the stickless Streeter on her back, Eldridge charged the net and beat Kate Spooner with backhand to forehand move for the first tally of the game at the 10:52 mark.

The Raiders broke the 1-1 tie in the second period as Eldridge broke out on a two on one with teammate Katie Zalewski. Eldridge fired a wrister past the right pad of Spooner for her second short-handed goal of the game this one coming at the 7:53 mark.

They added to the lead at the 14:22 mark of the second when a Megan Sullivan shot popped out to Shae Labbe. Labbe got it off her stick quickly and beat Spooner glove side.

Spooner finished with 36 saves including 22 in the second period in the losing effort.

This weekend the ECAC is partnering with the Headway Foundation to raise awareness for concussions in athletics. Teams will be wearing special stickers on their helmets while raising money for the cause.
