BEVERLY, MA - With 10 seconds remaining on the clock in the Union College men's lacrosse 2017 season opener, senior midfielder
Jack O'Connor raced the ball into the attacking zone. He found fellow senior
Daniel Kycia who roped one from long range to beat the Endicott College goalkeeper as time expired in the game.
Union picked up its first win of the season by a final of 13-12 in Beverly, MA. Kycia's game winner was his third of the game as fellow senior attacker Peter Richarson lead the Dutchmen with four goals in game.
Endicott held the lead for much of the second half before Richardson's fourth goal of the game with 4:58 remaining in regulation tied the game at 12-12 off a nice assist from
John Edmonds.
The Dutchmen grabbed the early momentum finding offense through top returning scorer senior
Peter Richardson. With the game tied at 1-1 early in the first quarter, Richardson would score the next three Union goals putting his team up 4-3. Richardson's third goal of the opening frame came with just one second remaining on the clock as the Dutchmen took the goal advantage into the first break.
After pushing the lead to 7-5 with 5:51 remaining in the first half, Endicott would respond by netting the next six goals in the game. With the score at 11-7 in favor of the Seagulls, senior midfielder
Jack Scheufele cut the deficit in half with back-to-back goals as Edmonds and Kycia picked up assists on the third quarter goals.
The Dutchmen will open their home schedule on Saturday as they play host to Babson College. The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field.
