WHITTIER, CA - After trailing Whittier College 10-9 with under three minutes to play, the Union College men's lacrosse team netted three goals in a two minute span to grab a 12-10 victory in Whittier, CA Sunday afternoon.
After being held scoreless throughout the entire game, Union's top scorer, senior
Peter Richardson, tied the game at 10-10 with 2:47 remaining off an assist from fellow senior
Daniel Kycia. Just 37 seconds later, first year
Kerry Lyne put the Dutchmen ahead off a pass from senior
Jack O'Connor. Kycia would seal the Union victory with 47 seconds to play as he found the scoresheet for the only time in the game.
In all, nine Dutchmen found the back of the net in the win over the Poets Saturday as sophomore
James Diver,
Jack Scheufele and Lyne all had a pair of goals.
Despite being three time zones away, the Dutchmen's dominant faceoff game traveled to the Golden State as senior
Tom Lawton and sophomore
Alex Newhouse combined for 18-of-23 in the circle.
Whittier's Nick Hernandez was able to net four goals including two on the man up advantage for the Poets but, the Dutchmen were able to limit the options around Hernandez as he was the only Whittier player to have multiple tallies on the scoresheet.
Union will be back on the field on Saturday as it will open up Liberty League play in Canton, NY against St. Lawrence University. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
