AUBURNDALE, FL -- The Union College baseball team grabbed its second win of the 2017 season as it defeated Babson College 13-7 Tuesday morning in Auburndale, FL.
Backed by a six run outburst in the fifth inning, the Dutchmen were able to outslug the Beavers en route to their second victory in three days.
In the middle innings, Union plated 10 runs while eventual game winner sophomore pitcher
Jordan Whaley allowed just one run and one hit over four innings on the mound.Â
The Dutchmen found production from up and down the lineup as nine of the 10 Union batters reached base with eight separate players scoring. Sophomore infielder
Anthony Amoroso scored four times reaching base all five times he stepped to the plate.
Amoroso got the Dutchmen on the board with a second inning two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2. He would walk in his next four at-bats.
First year
Matt Catalfo led Union with three RBIs in the game including two on a 5th inning double which scored sophomore
Wiley Knight and Amoroso. This gave the Dutchmen a 7-6 lead. By the end of the inning, Union had plated three more runs to open up a 10-6 advantage over the Beavers.
Union will be back on the diamond tomorrow morning at 11:45 a.m. when it faces University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Lake Myrtle Park No. 8 in Auburndale, FL.
