SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College baseball team fell to Washington and Jefferson College 16-7 on Thursday afternoon at Lake Mrytle Field No. 4 in Auburndale, FL.
After the presidents scored the first two runs of the ball game in the top of the second inning, the Dutchmen came right back plating two of their own as
Sean Cullen doubled home
Kent Curran. Later, Cullen would score on an Antony Amoroso sac fly squaring the game at 2-2.
Union would take its first lead of the day at 6-4 when
Jake Vesling doubled down the right field line scoring
Matt Catalfo and
Colin Kelly. Vesling led the Dutchmen with three hits in the game finishing 3-of-5 at the plate with two RBIs.
Andy Labeck would also go 3-of-5 at the plate with two runs batted in against the Presidents. After Washington and Jefferson cut the Union lead to 6-5, Labeck pushed it back to a two run game singling a 2-2 pitch up the middle to score
Greg Dougherty.
Going into the top of the eighth inning, the Dutchmen clung to a 7-6 lead over the Presidents. Behind eight hits in the inning, Washington and Jefferson would tally six runs taking the lead for good.
The Presidents added for more runs in the top of the ninth to cap the 16-7 win.
Union is back on the diamond tomorrow when it concludes the Florida trip against University of Wisonsin-Oshkosh at 11:00 a.m.
