BUFFALO, NY – With 1:08 remaining in the 2017 season opener for the Union College women's lacrosse team, senior
Jackie Hagopian scored the eventual game winner against Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, NY.
In the 13-12 win over the Bengals, the Dutchwomen were paced by a six-goal performance by Hagopian who had a hat trick just minutes into the second period of play.
Union jumped out to a 5-1 lead as
Cailin Pandolfi and Hagopian netted two goals within the first 20 minutes of play.
The Dutchwomen would take a 6-3 lead into the halftime interval. Their three goal lead would quickly shrink to one as the Bengals scored twice in the first minute and a half of play making it 6-5.
A goal by
Natalie Sullivan and the third of the day by Hagopian kept the Dutchwomen in the lead.
A Bengals 3-0 run gave them their first lead of the day but, Hagopian's fourth tally of the day tied it up with 11 minutes remaining in the game.
Union is back on the field on Tuesday March 7 traveling to SUNY-Cortland. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. in Cortland, NY.
