SCHENECTADY, NY -- With the clock ticking down in the first overtime against Liberty League rival Skidmore College, Union College men's lacrosse sophomore attacker
John Edmonds found a streaking Dutchman in the form of first year long stick midfielder
Josh Willis who took the pass and quickly got it off his stick to score the game winner with 11 seconds left on the clock. Willis' game winner gave Union a 10-9 win over the Thoroughbreds.
Willis' fourth tally of the season gives the Dutchmen their second win in Liberty League play this season as they now sit at 2-2 with three conference games remaining in 2017.
The Dutchmen offense was paced by first year attacker
Kerry Lyne who scored a career-high five goals Wednesday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field. Lyne is the first Union player to have 20 goals this season leading the team with 21 in his rookie campaign.
Before the game winner, Union did not lead in the game since the 12:02 mark of the second quarter. Midway through the fourth quarter, a goal by Skidmore's Will Lukas pushed the Thoroughbreds lead to 9-6 with 7:10 remaining in the game.
A minute later Lyne netted his fourth goal of the game shrinking the deficit to 9-7. Another goal by Lyne at the 5:10 mark and a Edmonds goal with 4:24 to play brought the Dutchmen all the way back to tie the game at 9-9.
Paddy Fallon led Skidmore with a hat trick performance while Jack Metzler and Cody Legeza both notched a pair of goals in the game.
Union is back at Frank Bailey Field on Saturday when it faces RIT. The game is scheduled for noon.
