SCHENECTADY, NY -- Sophomore Cas Szwajkowski scored four goals with three assists and Tyler Phillips added a game high five goals to lead Skidmore College to at 15-12 women's lacrosse victory over Union College in Liberty League play at Frank Bailey Field Friday. The Thoroughbreds improved to 8-4 on the season and 4-1 in league play while the Dutchwomen fell to 2-6 and 1-3 in the league.
Natalie LaBeau scored three goals and the Thoroughbreds got single goals by Lilla Seymour, Amanda Orvis and Allison Byrne. Megan Kolopsky made six saves including three in each half in over 47 minutes of play, while Caroline Kenlon played nearly 13 minutes. Szawajkowski had 11 shots, 10 on net, and RAchel Talanian had a game high seven draw controls.
Union was led by
Cailin Pandolfi, who scored three goals and added two assists. She also had three draw controls.
Jackie Hagopian had a team high four draw controls to go with two goals and Hannah Rosenberg and
Mallory Toolan also scored twice.
Brianna Stout and
Natalie Sullivan had three caused turnovers each.
Jen Hughes made 10 saves for the Dutchwomen, five in each period.
Other stats were just as close as the score. Skidmore had a 29-22 shot advantage and a 15-12 advantage in ground balls. The guests also won 15 of the 29 draw controls and were eight for nine on free position shots.
The game was tied at 8-8 at halftime. Union led 12-10 with 21:13 to play after Pandolfi's 11th of the season, but Skidmore scored the final five goals of the game, capped by Szwajkowski's 48th of the season with 6:22 to play.
Union is right back home at Bailey Field Saturday to face local league rival RPI at 3:00 p.m.
