Hagopian leads 14-9 win over RPI

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior Jackie Hagopian tied her season high with six goals to lead the Union College women's lacrosse team to a 14-9 Liberty League victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at Frank Bailey Field Saturday afternoon. The Dutchwomen improved to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the league while the Engineers fell to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Mallory Toolan, Kellie Cronin and Ramsey Walsh scored two goals each for the Dutchwomen while Cailin Pandolfi and Hannah Rosenberger tallied one each. Pandolfi and Natalie Sullivan had two assists each in the win. Jen Hughes made nine saves in net.

Hagopian had eight shots, all on net, and Cronin had four shots, also all on the RPI cage. Celia Condrick caused three RPI turnovers and Sullivan picked up three ground balls.

Morgan Doyle led RPI with four goals and had five shots on net. Casey Clarke and Michelle Bolger scored twice each while Shyla Niemann dished out three assists. Aleena Milinski made eight saves for the Engineers. Bolger, Maddy Aslansan and Clarke each recorded two caused turnovers.

Union had a slim 25-24 shot advantage and the hosts had 13 ground balls to RPI's 10. RPI won 14 of the 25 draws and went 11 for 13 on clears to Union's 14 for 16. The Dutchwomen had a 3-0 lead and led 5-2 with 18:48 left in the first half before two RPI goals. Union took a 7-4 lead into the intermission. With four of the first five in the second half, the Dutchwomen went up 11-5 and the closest RPI could get was 13-8 with 6:08 left.

The Dutchwomen will host a non-league game with Middlebury Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
