Hagopian and Sullivan Push Union Past Clarkson

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College women's lacrosse team beat Liberty League foe Clarkson University by a final score of 15-13 Friday afternoon in Potsdam, NY.

Natalie Sullivan and Jackie Hagopian led the Dutchwomen with five goals in the game Hagopian also tallied two assists in the game while Sullivan had one helper in the win. Jen Hughes made four saves made nine saves on 22 shots on goal finishing Friday with a .409 save percentage.

Clarkson had a tio of players who tallied a hat trick in the losing effort as Jaid Baytos, Abby Collins and Kate Dillon all netted three goals for the Golden Knights. Baytos and Collins also added assists to their names to tie for a team high four points in the game. Starting goalie Samantha Gladd finished the game with just two saves on 15 shots while Carrie Yurkon closed the game in net for Middlebury recording three saves on five shots.

Both teams ended the game with 25 shots. Union had a sizeable edge in draw controls winning 20-of-30 in the game. Clarkson caused 12 turnovers to Union's nine while also holding the ground ball advantage at 17-12. The Golden Knights also converted all 17 of their clear attempts. Goals from four different Dutchwomen helped Union jump out to an early 4-1 lead in the 11 minutes of play. Clarkson would come back to take the lead into halftime ending the first half on a 4-1 run of its own. The Golden Knights would extend their lead to 12-10 12 minutes into the second half before a final Union run of 5-1 ended the game.

Union will be back on the field on Saturday when the Dutchwomen travel to St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start time.
