SCHENECTADY, NY -- After falling behind for the first time in the game to Montclair State at 11-10, two goals from first year attacker
Kerry Lyne in the final minutes gave Union a 12-11 victory at Frank Bailey Field in Schenectady, NY.
Montclair's James Clarke put the Red Hawks ahead for the first time with 4:59 remaining in the game when he beat Union goalie
Jack Santilli. Santilli finished the game with 15 saves in the game tied for the most he has had this season.
After the Montclair goal, the Dutchmen controlled much of the possession for the remainder of the game. After causing a Red Hawk attacker to turn the ball over, senior defenseman Lance Lonergan Jr. raced up field before dropping the ball off to Lyne on the right flank. Lyne beat his man before slipping one past the goalie with 2:50 remaining to tie the game at 11 all.
Just seconds later, senior midfielder
Jack O'Connor forced a turnover. He quickly got the ball to Lyne who did the rest scoring the eventual game winner at the 2:26 mark of the fourth quarter.
Union had the lead from the outset scoring the first three goals of the game. The third came from first year midfielder
Griffin Morgan who raced from his own end down the right sideline before slipping in front of net and beat the goalie up high. This was Morgan's first career goal for the Dutchmen.
The Dutchmen's final game of the regular season comes on Saturday when they travel to Vassar College. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, NY.
