HARTFORD, Conn.—Seven shutout innings from Trinity (Conn.) starting pitcher Alex Shafer and a pair of strong offensive frames led the Bantams to an 8-0 win against the Union College baseball team, Thursday night at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium. The Dutchmen go to 18-12, while the Bantams move to 20-14.
The two teams combined for just one hit over the first two innings before Trinity broke the scoreless tie with three runs in the third. Matt Koperniak gave the Bantams a 2-0 lead with a two-out, two-run triple and Nick Dibendetto delivered an RBI double in the next at-bat.
Shafer continued to cruise on the mound, allowing just three hits over the next four innings, and Trinity added four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Christian Orsini hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Brendan Pierce, and Koperniak drew a walk to load the bases. DiBendetto followed with a two-run double and Johnny Statmatis pushed across the Bantams seventh run with a two-out RBI single.
Trinity added a run in the bottom of the eight on a throwing error for the 8-0 final. Shafer earned the win, scattering four hits and one walk while striking out six.

Sam Mikell suffered the loss for Union, allowing three runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts over three innings.
The Dutchmen close the regular season with a four-game home-and-home series against crosstown rival RPI. Union hosts the Engineers for a doubleheader at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 6.
