SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior midfielder Augustine Okoye scored with 8:36 remaining in the second overtime to lift Skidmore College to a 2-1 victory over host Union College at College Park Hall Friday night.
The Thoroughbreds improved to 3-0-1 and Union lost for the first time in six games (5-1). It was the Liberty League opener for both teams.
Dario Flores sent a cross in front of the Union net, and Okoye's shot went inside the far right post for the winning score. It was the only shot for either team in the second overtime period. Skidmore had 17 shots including nine in the first half. Sebastian Bosch made five stops for the guests in net.
Union had 11 of the 14 corners in the game. The Dutchmen forced the overtime with just 2:11 remaining in regulation.
Christopher McGrath had a throw in and Omar Al Homsi got to the ball in traffic in the middle and kicked it in to the left of the net for his second of the season.
Skidmore opened the scoring at 71:56 as Mike Park converted a penalty kick to the left of Union keeper
John Weitzman. The Union senior goaltender had posted four straight shutouts and his amazing streak ended after keeping opponents scoreless for 430 minutes and 44 seconds. His goals against mark is still impressive at 0.64 in six games.
