SCHENECTADY, NY – Linsey Giles scored her fourth goal of the season to help lead the Union College women's soccer team past Westfield State, 1-0, on Wednesday night at College Park Field.
Â
The lone goal was scored in the 54th minute after Giles collected the ball inside the 6-yard box and slipped it past Owls' goalkeeper Leah Ciampa. Union's
Sydney Keane received the first assist on the goal after heading the ball off a cross from
Aly Leahy, who earned the secondary assist.
Â
Westfield State started off the contest with multiple offensive chances, keeping Union on its heels early. However, junior goalkeeper
Kelsey Hartsoe kept the Owls from finding the back of the net, making six saves in the first half alone. Hartsoe turned in eight saves in the full-90 for her fourth clean sheet of the season.
Â
After the Owls had the majority of offensive chances in the first half, the Dutchwomen turned up their game in the second half. Union out-shot Westfield State, 7-5, in the second half.
Â
Union College is now 4-2-1 on the season, and hits the road this weekend for a Liberty League match against Vassar on Saturday, Sept. 30. The game against the Brewers is set to begin at 3 p.m. (ET).
