SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College women's ice hockey team fell to the Providence Friars, 7-3, in the 2017-18 regular season opener this evening.
The Dutchwomen came storming out of the gates this evening, as senior
Caitlyn McLaren and junior
Arianna Kosakowski would score goals less than three minutes apart.
The Dutchwomen led 2-1 for the start of the second period and moved to a 3-1 advantage when
Rachel de Perio assisted Kosakowski on her second goal of the evening. The Friars responded quickly and would put up two goals before the end of the second period. The teams headed into the third period stalled at 3 goals a piece.
In the third period, PC put the gas pedal to the floor and would go on to score four goals to end the game at 7-3. Providence took advantage of key opportunities and went 3/4 on power plays for goals. The last goal of the game came on an empty netter as Union had pulled its goalie.
PC outshot the Dutchwomen 50-13.
