Box Score ALBANY, NY - In its first road game of the year, the Union Men's soccer team shut out Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences three goals to none to continue its perfect start to the season, on Tuesday night.
The Dutchmen controlled the momentum of the game heavily throughout the first half. Senior captain
Ethan Strauss netted a goal on a one-on-one with the ACPHS goalkeeper. Strauss was assisted by Yasin Domayci after an intricate switch of fields tripped up the Panthers' defense.
Salvador Lopez Jr. later converted a free kick to give Union a comfortable 2-0 lead at the half, with a man-up advantage. The netter was Lopez Jr.'s third goal, in as many games.
The Panthers came out recharged for the second half, playing aggressively with 10 men on the pitch, and nearly scoring on a free kick with 20 minutes to go. Despite the Panther surge, Jack Weitzman took care of business in the net with several key saves to preserve the shut out.
With 10 minutes to go in regulation, Union's freshmen secured the win.
Poom Mera scored his second goal of the year when he and
Amal Amchtal combined on a quick change of fields and accurate cross to put away the third goal of the evening.
The Dutch return to action this Friday, Sept. 8 at the MCLA Classic at 6 p.m.
