Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Weckworth’s career night leads Union to OT win

POTSDAM, NY – Senior Kevin Weckworth scored a blistering 40 points to lead the Union College men's basketball team to a 71-66 overtime victory against Clarkson on Friday night.

The 40 points is a career best for Weckworth, who previously had a game-high of 29 points against Fredonia on Nov. 15, 2013. It also bests the last game-high performance of 37 points scored by Wade McNamara against Ithaca College on Dec. 8, 2016.

Weckworth shot 15-24 from the floor, including going 5-for-8 behind the arc and 5-for-7 at the free-throw line.

In addition to Weckworth's 40 points, fellow senior Greg King was second on the team with 12 points, but nabbed 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

The two teams traded scores between the two halves, as Clarkson led 31-30 at halftime, before Union outscored Clarkson 31-30 in the second half. In overtime, Union went on to gain their largest lead of the night, outscoring the Golden Knights 10-5, en route to the Dutchmen's second Liberty League win of the season.

Clarkson held an eight-point lead midway through the second half, but with the help of 15 free-throw opportunities, Union battled back to tie the game up at 61-61. Union only committed 11 fouls in the contest, compared to 23 by the Golden Knights.

The Dutchmen remain up north for the weekend and take on St. Lawrence tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. (ET).
