Men’s hoops wins third straight

CANTON, NY – Four Dutchmen recorded double-digit points as the Union College men's basketball team posted an 81-73 win against St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon.

The win is the third straight for the Dutchmen, who are now 7-5 on the season with a 3-3 mark in Liberty League play. St. Lawrence falls to 3-11 (1-6 LL) with the loss.

Seniors Greg King, Matt Liquori, and Kevin Weckworth, along with junior Brendan Laing were the four Union student-athletes who hit double digits, as King led the group with 18 points. Both Weckworth and Liquori had 16 points, while Laing had 13.

Despite the lead changing nine times throughout the course of the game, St. Lawrence never led by more than three during the first minute. Union finished off the first half to take a 45-40 lead into halftime, before posting 36 in the second half for the win.

The Dutchmen shot nearly 50-percent in the contest, hitting 32 of 65 shots in the game. Union also scored 48 of its points in the paint and 26 off of 18 St. Lawrence turnovers.

Union has one more road game left, an 8 p.m. (ET) tilt against Bard on Tuesday, Jan. 16, before returning home to the Viniar Athletic Center for a four-game homestand.
