SCHENECTADY, NY - After getting off to a slow start, the Dutchwomen couldn't bounce back and ultimately fell to Vassar College, 61-46.
After the first 10 minutes of play, the Brewers led Union, 17-3. Union's only points thus far had come off a jumper and a made free throw. By the end of the second half, Vassar had pulled away to a 27-10 lead. However, thanks to two baskets from behind the arc, from
Joana Santos and
Jenni Barra, the Dutchwomen had made ground in their comeback.Â
Union improved its numbers in the third quarter, draining two three-pointers and going five of 14 from the field (35.7 percent).Â
With three minutes left to go in the game, Barra netted her fifth three pointer of the night to bring Union to a 40-54 deficit, the closest the game had been since the first quarter.
Despite the steady improvements throughout the game, Union couldn't catch up to Vassar and would drop to 2-6 in Liberty League play with the loss.
The Dutch return to action tomorrow afternoon to take on Capital District rival, RPI at 2 p.m. in the Viniar Center.Â
